• Collaborated with a US-based company, we have developed a strategy of surface modification of particles from post-consumer wastes that allows them to be used as reinforced fillers in silicone foam (2023).
• Collaborated with a Canadian company, a greener strategy has been developed to modify naturally occurring antimicrobial compounds to improve delivery and interfacial interactions of the modified compounds to interesting biological targets and significantly enhanced the antimicrobial efficacy (1 patent filed) (2021).
• Worked with a European-based company to develop a catalyst-free curing silicone and surface modified dyes for hair coloring. The performance of rich and even color payoff and leaving hair silky and shiny were achieved (2020).
• Developed a series of natural material-based silicone surfactants, helping a Canadian company expand their product portfolio in the market (2019).
• Collaborated with a European company to enhance the thermal stability of silicones used as domes in LEDs, which permitted them to be operate at higher power (and therefore temperature) levels. We conducted molecular characterization to understand the origins of thermal degradation in silicone elastomers, enabling improvements in thermal stability (2018)
• Developed UV-curable silicone inks for use in 3D printing (additive manufacturing), helping a Canadian company expand their product portfolio in the market (2017).
• Improved a sustainable silicone resin manufacturing process for a China-based silicone company, enhancing product quality and significantly reducing chemical waste. Additionally, we provided training courses on silicone chemistry and synthetic technologies for their R&D chemists (2017)
• Partnered with a Canadian company to develop a biocompatible silicone material with enhanced tactile properties for use in dysphagia devices (2015)
• Assisted a Canadian company in testing the hypothesis that silicone surfactants with the appropriate structure can improve stain removal performance (2015)
• Extensive silicone analysis and testing efforts helped a US company resolve failures in silicone gel-based HEPA filter seals (2012)
• Collaborated with a European company to develop a series of non-toxic to low-toxic additives for modifying silicone surface properties, thereby inhibiting fungal growth on silicone sealants (2011) (3 patents)
• Developed natural acid-based silicone surfactants in collaboration with a US-based company to enhance the efficiency of protein cleaning from contact lenses (2003) (1 patent)
